Speed of pre-monsoon slowdowns this year in the country

New Delhi: The pre-monsoon in the country has disappointed the masses. The pre-monsoon rains between the months of March to May in India have been the weakest after seven years. So far this year, only 99 mm of rainfall is recorded during the pre-monsoon as compared to 212 mm of rainfall last year.

According to information, there has been less than 49 per cent rainfall in the south states this year in the pre-monsoon period, which has raised more concern. Region-wise, pre-monsoon has been the weakest in Marathwada-Vidarbha, Konkan-Goa, Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch, coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry. Also, in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand, western Uttar Pradesh, North Karnataka, Telangana, Rayalaseema, law rainfall was recorded.

As per the information, pre-monsoon rains are necessary for cultivation, ground water filling and retaining moisture in the ground. In the absence of this, water scarcity may be faced. A forecast said more than 40 percent of the country's share could be hit by drought this year. The major reason for this is weak pre-monsoon.
