New Delhi: The wave of new variant of Corona in India Omicron can be deadly like Delta and its peak can come in January. Dr Christopher Murray, Director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) and President of the University of Health Metrics Sciences, Washington, said the above while talking to the media.

He has said that the cases of the new variant of corona in India, Omicron, are showing the same increase as was seen in the delta wave. He said that the concerns are increasing because on Tuesday, new cases of corona have crossed the number of 50 thousand. Although the Indian government has handled the situation of Corona better than other countries. Christopher Murray further said that any kind of restriction will not stop Omicron from growing and it will infect a large number of people.

He said that the Omicron variant will engulf 35 million people around the world in just two months. He said that the number of cases that were registered during the delta wave in India may reappear. On the question of peak till mid-January, he said that up to three and a half million people are estimated to be infected with Omicron. This is three times the number seen during the peak of the delta in April. He said that the peak of Omicron could come by the end of January.
