Malappuram: Two months after the excruciating murder of a pregnant elephant in Kerala, another such disgusting case has come to light. 1 pregnant wild buffalo has been hunted in Malappuram. So far five people have been arrested in this case. A case has been registered against them within the Wildlife Protection Act.

Forest officials received buffalo meat during a raid on the house of an accused on the night of August 10. However, it has also come to light in the investigation that the accused had hunted the buffalo in Under Pancha Forest of Kalikavu range of Nilambur South Forest Division. The forest officers have recovered 25 kilos of meat from the residence of the accused. It is feared that the total quantity of meat would have been 200 kg. The accused left the buffalo skeleton and other parts in the forest itself. Now the forest officer will investigate whether these 5 accused were the victim of pregnant buffalo or not. On Wednesday, these accused were presented in court.

Officers have also recovered a domestic gun and other weapons used for hunting from the accused. All these have been captured now. The accused have been booked under separate sections of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 for poaching and trade. It is known that earlier in the month of June, in Palakkad district of Kerala, there was outrage across the country due to the death of a fifteen-year-old pregnant elephant. Female elephant fed a pineapple in the Silent Valley Forest area in which the cracker was kept.
