Premchand is one of the greatest writers of Hindi and Urdu. Very few people know that seeing Premchand's works, the famous Bengali novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay gave him the title of 'Novel Emperor.' Premchand started a new tradition in the story and novel that guided the writers of future generations. Premchand's works are the heritage of Hindi literature which have been preserved.

Every creation of Premchand is valuable which all of you must have read. All of you will remember the Idgah story. Premchand's original name was Dhanpat Rai and he was born on July 31, 1880, in Lamhi village near Varanasi. His father's name was Ajayab Rai and he worked in a small post office. Premchand's mother passed away when he was only eight years old and his father got married the second time. Premchand remained in love and affection for his mother and spent his life in the absence of love.

When he was only 15 years old, his father Ajayab Rai got him married to an older girl at an early age and his father passed away a year after his marriage. This put a household and cost burden of five people in his head. Premchand wanted to be a lawyer, but poverty did not do so. Premchand had read hundreds of novels within two to three years. From the age of 13, Premchand started writing and that took his life forward. He died on October 8, 1936, after a prolonged illness.
