Mumbai: Two junior engineers of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has been arrested for giving an invitation to kill their veteran. Deepak Khambit, a 49-year-old executive engineer of MBMC, was shot dead by two attackers near Borivali National Park on September 29. Deepak Khambit was in his car when the attackers attacked.

The attackers opened fire on his car twice, the glass broke, but he narrowly escaped. Both the bikers were wearing the attacker's raincoats and had fled leaving the helmet. During the investigation, the police had to examine 100 CCTV footage to ascertain the activities of the accused. Police caught the handler of the shooters and the shooter was later arrested from UP. There is already a case of firing on an accused outside a mall in Mumbai. The attackers have been identified as Amit Sinha and Ajay Singh.

During the investigation, it was found that the shooters were promised Rs 20 lakh for the crime and Rs 10 lakh had already been paid. The junior engineers, who were associates of Khambit, had hatched a conspiracy as they felt that they had not received promotions and good postings since 2004 due to Khambit. Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagarale said five people have been arrested in the case, junior engineers Mohite and Deshmukh had ordered the crime, the case was resolved with the joint efforts of Mumbai and Mira Bhayandar police.
