Prepare a policy to provide internet and mobile facilities in tribal areas: Chief Minister YS Jagan

Vijayawada: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday said that the government will seek Centre's support for building infrastructure in tribal areas across the state. He further said that around 31,155 acres of DKT deeds have been given to 19,919 tribals. He said that a large number of tribals have been recruited as volunteers in village secretariats. He said that forest rights pattas have been given to tribal farmers, who are assisted every year through Rythu Bharosa along with other welfare schemes like Asara, Cheyutha, Amma Vodi, Vidya Deevena and Vasati Deevena.

The Chief Minister was informed that telecommunication facilities are now available in more than 900 tribal villages through 400 towers. He directed the telecom officers to prepare a map of the towers being set up in the tribal areas and said that a policy should be prepared to provide internet and mobile facilities in all the tribal villages at the earliest.

He asked the officials to build more infrastructure in the tribal areas to wipe out Left Wing Extremism in the state. DGP Gautam Sawang, who attended the meeting, said that there has been a significant reduction in Maoist activities in the state. “There is some Maoist presence only in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and two Godavari districts.
