NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra termed the Delhi government's decision to fire over 800 Anganwadi workers for striking for an increase in honorarium "unjust," and demanded that they should be immediately reinstated.

The lives of 884 Anganwadi workers in Delhi were turned upside down after they were unceremoniously fired for participating in a month-long strike demanding a hike in honorarium and decent working hours.

On March 14, these workers, who included some single mothers, were given a termination notice for their 39-day protest.

Attacking the AAP-led Delhi government, Priyanka Gandhi claimed that it had just increased MLA honoraria.

"However, in an unjust move, the administration fired over 800 Anganwadi employees who demanded a decent honorarium. In a tweet, Congress General Secretary said, "Asking for a reasonable honorarium for hard labour is not a crime." Gandhi demanded that these Anganwadi employees be immediately restored.
