Puri unveils National Initiative for Promotion of Upskilling "NIPUN"

NEW DELHI: Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, today launched 'NIPUN,' or the National Initiative for Promoting Upskilling of Nirman Workers,' an innovative scheme for skill training of construction workers.

The NIPUN project is an initiative of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as part of its flagship scheme, the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), to train over 1 lakh construction workers through new skilling and upskilling programmes, as well as provide them with work opportunities in other countries.

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Those in attendance included Shri Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Shri Sunil Barthwal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Shri Sanjay Kumar.

On the occasion, Shri Hardeep S Puri engaged with some construction workers and gave them safety helmets.

Shri Hardeep S Puri, speaking at the event, stated that the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) has had a transformative influence on urban poor households by giving upskilling and employment possibilities to urban people, particularly the youth.
