New Delhi: Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) suffered a defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final match of IPL 2022 on Sunday night. The team, which reached the final after 14 years of exile, was a short away from the trophy. With this, the team could not even pay tribute to former captain Shane Warne by winning the trophy. Rajasthan became the champions under the captaincy of Warne in the first season of the IPL in 2008, but the team's performance in the subsequent season was nothing special. In the mega auction of IPL 2022, the management had prepared a good team and hoped for the title. But after the defeat in the final, this dream remained unfulfilled. Even after 14 years, Rajasthan Royals' exile to win the trophy continues.

Former Australian player Shane Warne passed away on March 4 before the start of the 15th season of the IPL. The news of Warne's death shook the Rajasthan team as the team won its first title under his captaincy. Now Rajasthan wanted to pay tribute to Warne by winning the title of season-15, but she could not do so. Rajasthan played the 45th match of IPL 2022 in honour of Shane Warne, during this time the team wore the jersey of Warne's name.

Rajasthan, who have been disappointing their fans for the past several seasons, showed a great game this season. In batting, while the rest of the batsmen were also making a splash along with Jos Buttler, bowlers like Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult and Pasiddh Krishna were constantly picking up wickets. The league stage ended with this team winning 9 matches and finishing second. In the first qualifier, the team was definitely defeated, but on the second occasion, they bounced back again and entered the final. This year Sanju Samson's team was just one step away from the trophy, but fans will expect the team to perform the same next season and win the trophy.
