LUCKNOW: Actor Rajinikanth has responded to the social media criticism that ensued after a recent incident in which he was observed touching the feet of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during his visit to Lucknow. In an effort to address the backlash, Rajinikanth explained that his long-standing practice is to display respect to Yogis or Sanyasis by touching their feet, irrespective of their age. This explanation comes in the wake of the online outcry he faced for his actions.
Upon returning to Chennai on Monday night following a series of travels, Rajinikanth engaged briefly with the media at the airport. During this interaction, he spoke about the controversy surrounding his act of touching Yogi Adityanath's feet. He shared, "It has always been my habit to seek blessings by touching the feet of Yogis or Sanyasis, even if they are younger than me. I have consistently adhered to this practice."
In a recent encounter, Rajinikanth greeted UP CM Yogi Adityanath with a namaste before proceeding to touch his feet during their meeting in Lucknow. This act rapidly circulated on social media platforms, eliciting diverse reactions from the public. One social media user commented, "This video is the ultimate facepalm and cringe moment of the month." Another tweet conveyed, "What a surprising turn of events! The 72-year-old Rajinikanth touching the feet of the 51-year-old Yogi Adityanath..." A different individual expressed, "This is absolutely astonishing!"
Furthermore, Rajinikanth reportedly conveyed his appreciation to the public for the success of his latest film, "Jailer." When queried about his stance on the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he opted not to delve into political matters. During his visit to Uttar Pradesh, Rajinikanth organized a special screening of "Jailer," which was attended by UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. Additionally, he had an encounter with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav at his residence.
