Rajya Sabha Chair Goes Fully Digital: Chairman's Paperless Initiative

NEW DELHI: Starting from this Monsoon Session, the Rajya Sabha chair has embraced full digitalization, using electronic tablets for various aspects of conducting business in the House. Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, initiated this paperless tradition by using an iPad to conduct proceedings during the second last day of the Budget session a few months ago.

With the Rajya Sabha going fully digital, hour-long meetings have been conducted with officials from different wings of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. Chairman Dhankhar had previously urged his officials to prepare for a paperless Parliament in the future, especially with the new Parliament Building set to be technology-driven and paperless.

In April, a comprehensive meeting was held with senior officials from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, during which Dhankhar encouraged them to enhance their skills and adapt to the technological changes. He also requested written suggestions from the officials concerning any training requirements, technological skilling, or capacity-building needed for the transition to a digital platform.
