Andhra Pradesh: BJP broken into two pieces over Capital Amravati

Hyderabad: In Andhra Pradesh, there has been a split in the Bharatiya Janata Party over Amravati. Recently, BJP state president Kanna Lakshmi Narayan has written a letter to Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan. In that letter, he has said "The YSR Congress government's rejection of the bill making three capital in the state. An influential group of BJP leaders along with some MPs, like the Telugu Desam Party, is demanding to make Amravati the capital."

Apart from this, there are some party members who have said that this will affect the prospects of the party. Those opposing Amaravati to be the capital said that "BJP is seeking decentralized development along with the investigation of alleged irregularities in real estate in and around Amravati in the then TDP government". There are some leaders who say that this demand can damage the image of BJP. A senior BJP leader and member of the State Strategy Committee said, "We had campaigned for decentralized development. Recently, there was a demand to establish a high court in Kurnool in Rayalaseema region. By supporting the centralized capital in Amravati, the BJP will be affected in North Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, where the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government is proposing to make the working capital and judicial capital. Why is state BJP going against the Center?"

Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has also spoken, referring to Narayan, who demanded Amravati to be retained as a single capital. He said, "The BJP-led centre has already made it clear that it is the job of the state government to fix the state capital. We fail to understand why the state BJP unit is taking a different approach from the decision of the central party."
