RICHMOND - Police said officers were responding to robbery activity Monday night at Hilltop Mall. According to social-media posts, groups of cars can be seen circling the Hilltop Mall Road and Hilltop and Bloom Drive, which the police cruiser is tracking.

The police closed the area around the mall around 9:15 pm. The Sheriff's Office was giving a complete update with the helicopter flying and keeping an eye on the area. In his statement, police said, "RPD officers control the scene at Hilltop Mall after destroying the property of the robbers at this time." The police said in a tweet before 9:40 pm, "Misinformation was circulated by an unknown source about a shooting and an officer. That information is false. We are giving accurate information."
