Government is planning to start the cashless treatment facility for road accident victims. Under this, the maximum limit for each case will be Rs 2.5 lakh. Every year about five lakh road accidents occur in the country. It is the highest in the world. Looking at these figures, this scheme becomes very important. Every year one and a half lakh people die in road accidents and three lakh people become crippled.

In a letter sent to the transport secretaries and commissioners of the states on Tuesday, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has said that a motor vehicle accident fund will be created under the scheme for cashless treatment. It said that the National Health Authority (NHA) 's robust IT infrastructure will probably be used to provide cashless treatment to road accident victims.

Trauma and health services to victims of road accidents will be financed through the account, which will be set up under MoRTH for implementation of the scheme. The same, the letter states that it will be ensured that insurance companies contribute for assured vehicles and for hit-and-run cases through the General Insurance Council, and the ministry will pay for accidents for vehicles without licenses Will do. In addition, vehicle owners will be liable to pay the cost of treatment as a part of compensation in case of uninsured vehicles. PMJAY is being implemented in 32 states/union territories out of 36 and this scheme will benefit about 13 crore families.
