Team India is all set to play a three-match domestic T20 series against Australia before the T20 World Cup 2022. Before the series starting on September 20, the team captained by Rohit Sharma suffered a major setback when fast bowler Mohammed Shami was out of the series due to a Corona infection. Right-arm fast bowler Umesh Yadav has been included in the team in his place. Now, while addressing a press conference in Mohali, captain Rohit Sharma has explained why Umesh was given a chance in place of Shami.

Captain Rohit Sharma said that some players, including the famous Krishna, were injured. Along with this, he also gave an update about Avesh Khan. He said, 'We had some options. Some of them are injured like the Prasidh Krishna. Mohammad Siraj is playing county cricket and we don't want him to come back to India after travelling so long for a couple of matches. That would not be correct. Shami has been ruled out of the series due to unfortunate reasons.'

He said, 'Avesh Khan became very ill in the Asia Cup. They need some time to recover. He needs some time to get fit. All these things were taken into account. To select players like Umesh and Shami, who have been playing for a long time, one need not think that they have not been a part of this format for a long time. Still, we don't need to see the form of these players.'
