Former Captain Sarika Kale of the Indian Women's Kho-Kho team selected for the popular Arjuna Award said that such a time had come in her life. While she was able to eat only once a day due to economic problems for almost a decade, but the game changed her life. Kale, who currently works as a Sports Officer in the Government of Maharashtra, will be honored with the Arjuna Award on August 29 on the occasion of National Sports Day.

Kale, who was the captain of the Indian women's Kho-Kho team that won the gold medal at the South Asian Games 2016, told PTI, "Even though I have been selected for the Arjuna Award this year, I still remember those days when I used to play kho-kho. I ate only once a day for almost a decade. I came into the game due to the circumstances of my family. This game changed my life, and now I have been working in the post of Sports Officer in Tuljapur, Osmanabad city.

The 27-year-old player recalled that his uncle used to play sports in Osmanabad city of Maharashtra, and he took him to the ground at the age of 13. Thereafter, she continued to play. He said, 'My mother used to do sewing and other household chores. My father had physical compulsions, and so he could not earn much. Our entire family was dependent on the earnings of my grandparents. Also, he has raised many problems in his life.
