Midfielder Sarpreet Singh became the first footballer of Indian origin to play in the German league Bundesliga. Sarpreet made his debut for Bayern Munich in a match played against Vardar Beremann. Bayern Munich beat Vardar Bremen 6–1 with the help of a hat-trick from Philippe Coutinho. Sarpreet joined the Munich club in the summer of this year.

The 20-year-old Sarpreet played against New Zealand for India in the Intercontinental Cup last year. Earlier, he played for Australia's A-League club Wellington Phoenix. Sarpreet landed at the last minute of the match in place of Coutinho. He had to sit on Bayern Munich's bench eight times before making his official debut. He has played 39 matches for Phoenix so far. Munich always wanted to include Sarpreet in the team.

This year he got a chance after his performance playing for Wellington. Sarpreet's Wellington teammates David Williams and Roy Krishna are playing for ATK in the Indian Super League this year. Sarpreet is the second player from New Zealand to play in the Bundishliga. Before him, striker Winton Ruffer was the first New Zealand player to play in this league.
