Dehradun: Despite marathon meetings of the officials to prevent forest fires in the state, the forest has started growing even more. On Saturday, 78 places were affected due to forest blazes affecting more than 106 hectares of forest area. There were 61 fire incidents in Garhwal and 13 in Kumaon, while four incidents were from wildlife.

According to the report released by Chief Conservator of Forests, Forests and Disaster Management Nishant Verma, 1791 incidents of fire have been reported in the state so far, affecting more than 2891 hectares of forest area. In the fire incidents so far, a woman had lost her life in Pithoragarh district while six regular and daily staff of the forest department were injured.

Wildlife has been badly affected by the forest fire, but surprisingly, not a single case of loss of wildlife has been reported in the report released by the ministry so far. The report said that so far this year, forest fires have caused economic damage of more than 74 years.
