With the inauguration of a medical college in Malerkotla, a district with a majority of the Muslim population in Punjab can lead to a rejuvenation of the area. This region is a victim of illiteracy and about 31 percent of the population is illiterate. The announcement to start a medical college in Malerkotla is of special importance because the people of Malerkotla are residing here since the partition in 1947, this will be a gift for them after 73 years of independence. Despite being Muslim they refused to go Pakistan after the partition.

Six medical colleges in Malwa, Baba Farid Medical Science University, and with the beginning of the University in Malerkotla, the seventh Medical College will be constructed in Malwa, whereas only one medical college in Doaba, Jalandhar and after AIIMS established by Union Minister of State, this will be the second college in town.

At the time of Partition in 1947, there were scenes of violence and dead bodies on the ground but in midst of this an area that was far from the shadow of violence due to fact that there was compassion in the Hindu and Muslim communities. So the blood rivers flown during independence had no effect on Malerkotla. The Hindus themselves stood like a wall in front of the people who harmed the Muslim community.
