Kathmandu: Nepal's Supreme Court has dealt a major blow to the country's PM K P Oli. The court has quashed K P Sharma Oli's order to dissolve the House of Representatives. The Supreme Court has also ordered the appointment of former PM Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister. The court has asked Deuba to appoint him as PM within two days.

It may be recalled that Nepal's President Bidya Devi Bhandari had on May 22 announced the dissolution of Parliament on the recommendation of PM KP Oli and holding mid-term elections in November. The main opposition Nepali Congress had challenged President Bidya Devi Bhandari's decision in the apex court terming it unconstitutional. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had claimed the PM's post saying he had the support of 149 MPs.

The Supreme Court has now pronounced its verdict in the case saying that KP Oli has no right to dissolve Parliament. The court quashed Kp Oli's order and asked him to convene a house of representatives within seven days. The Supreme Court has also asked Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to be appointed AS PM within two days as he has the support of 149 MPs.
