BANGALORE:  Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting formally formally elected Siddaramaiah as its leader and chief minister of Karnataka, after which he staked his claim with the Governor, who invited him to form the government. The CLP also decided that DK Shivakumar would be his only deputy.

AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala and two other central observers, former Maharashtra chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh, also attended the meeting of newly elected Congress MLAs, MLCs, and MPs at Indira Gandhi Bhavan in Bangalore.

The swearing-in of the Congress government on May 20 would be a historic occasion, said Karnataka Congress President and appointed DyCM D.K. Shivakumar.Shivakumar said , the new government that represents the people and is respected by them will begin to take shape on Saturday, he told reporters in Bangalore.

"Every one of our national leaders is travelling to the swearing-in ceremony. We will put all of the assurance plans into effect on the first day of the cabinet. Participating in the event are numerous national leaders. "I urge all leaders and workers in the Congress to accept this remark in the media as an invitation to attend the programme. Before 11 a.m., the attendees must arrive at the location, he said. "I invite other party leaders from JD(S), BJP to attend the event as they are also a part of the government," he said.

In order to finalise the first stage of cabinet enlargement, we are going to meet with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, he said.

In response to a query regarding regional or caste-based objectives in cabinet formation, Shivakumar said, "Our first priority is to uphold the message provided to the people. There is no room for misunderstanding. We'll cooperate fully. We don't set priority based on caste or geography. One zone is all there is, he said.
