NEW DELHI: Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will meet with leaders of wholesale market associations across the city on Monday,  to seek advice and suggestions on organising the Delhi Wholesale Shopping Festival to boost job opportunities, according to officials. The meeting is expected to draw representatives from over 20 wholesale markets in the nation's capital.

To promote job opportunities, the Delhi government suggested a Delhi Shopping Festival and a Delhi Wholesale Shopping Festival in its "Rozgar Budget." The budget suggested total spending of Rs 250 crore for the Delhi Shopping Festival and the Wholesale Shopping Festival.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will lead the meeting at the Delhi Secretariat. Over 20 wholesale market groups are expected to attend the meeting, where the government will engage in a dialogue with traders to learn about their proposals and assess the feasibility of selecting suitable places to host the wholesale shopping festival," said CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal. The conference would be attended by representatives from Kashmiri Gate, Sadar Bazar, Naya Bazar, Karol Bagh, Chawri Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, and Gandhi Nagar, he said. The traders will also inform the government about any challenges they are encountering in their local market locations during the meeting, he added.

These retail and wholesale shopping festivals will be held in conjunction with shopkeepers, traders, and market bodies for four to six weeks, during which shopping, entertainment, and food will be promoted, and shoppers will receive discounts.

In his March budget speech, Sisodia emphasised the relevance of the project by citing the example of a wholesale shopping festival in China and its impact.
