Kochi: In the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, a six-year-old girl named Niranjana was bitten by a Viper snake during her visit to the 'Sannidhanam' at Sabarimala temple on Thursday morning. This incident prompted the forest department to take immediate action by deciding to increase the number of snake catchers stationed at the temple premises.

The unfortunate incident occurred at the front of Swami Ayyappan Road around 4:00 am. In response, Niranjana was swiftly taken to the Pamba Government Hospital, where she received emergency medical treatment. Following the administration of an anti-venom injection, she was transferred to Kottayam Medical College for further observation and treatment. Hospital authorities have confirmed that her condition is stable.

Recognizing the severity of the incident, the Forest Range Officer has ordered the deployment of two additional snake catchers, supplementing the existing workforce of two individuals. This move aims to enhance the readiness to deal with snake-related incidents and prevent such occurrences along the path to the temple.

The forest department has intensified measures to safeguard pilgrims against wildlife attacks, emphasizing the need for caution, especially during rain and changes in weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of pilgrims, the District Mining Officer has affirmed that all essential facilities for providing emergency medical assistance are readily available in the vicinity of the Sabarimala temple.
