New Delhi: The uproar has already started before the start of the new phase of corona vaccination. The Serum Institute of India (SII) has released the price of its covishield vaccine the previous day, fixing different prices for the Central and State Governments. Now, on the same issue, Interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi has written to PM Narendra Modi questioning the vaccine policy of the Central Government.

In her letter, Interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi wrote how the government can allow such profiteering at a time when hospitals are currently short of beds, medicines, oxygen. The Serum Institute has fixed different prices of vaccine for the central government and the state government, which will have a direct burden on the common citizens. Sonia Gandhi has further said that the crisis on state governments will increase and the general public will have to pay more for the vaccine. In such a case, how can the same vaccine manufacturer fix three types of rates. Sonia Gandhi has appealed that the Central Government should withdraw its policy immediately so that people above the age of 18 years can get the vaccine in large numbers.

State governments, private hospitals will be able to get vaccines directly from vaccine manufacturers as the central government has announced a new phase of vaccination. According to the rate list released by the Serum Institute yesterday, the vaccine will be given to the state government at the rate of Rs 400 per dose, private hospital at Rs 600 per dose and central government at Rs 150 per dose.
