Speeding truck ran over footpath in Kashmere Gate area, 3 injured

New Delhi: An accident is reported in north Delhi’s Kashmere Gate. An uncontrolled speeding truck climbed over a footpath hitting a scooter. On the footpath some homeless persons were sleeping over which the truck ran on Wednesday morning, the police said. Two people died while three others are reported injured. 

In the accident, the scooter rider and one of the homeless people lost their lives. The erring truck driver was caught by a police team on patrol duty in the area. The driver, Atiq Ahmed has been arrested, and also a case has been registered against him. The police officials have seized the truck, as well as the scooter involved in the mishap. According to the officer, the accident took place around 6 am when a truck coming from northeast Delhi’s Shastri Park hit a scooter after descending the Kashmere Gate flyover towards Outer Ring Road.

The police said that the scooter rider has been identified as Vehram Khan. The identities of the dead and injured homeless persons are still being learned. The reason for the accident done by the driver is yet to be known.
