BANGALORE: Harmanpreet Singh, a defender for the Indian men's hockey team, has been nominated for the FIH Player of the Year Award 2021–22, which is the same honour he received at the FIH Stars Awards ceremony in the previous year.
PR The FIH Hockey Star Awards 2021–22 have also nominated Sreejesh (FIH Goalkeeper of the Year Men), Savita (FIH Goalkeeper of the Year Women), Mumtaz Khan (FIH Rising Star of the Year Women), Sanjay (FIH Rising Star of the Year Men), Graham Reid (FIH Men's Team Coach of the Year), and Janneke Schopman (FIH Women's Team Coach of the Year).
Harmanpreet, who was a member of the teams that won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022 and the bronze medal at the Asian Champions Trophy in Dhaka in 2021, said he felt honoured to be nominated.
"Being nominated once more for the FIH Player of the Year Award is a great honour for me. I've always made an effort to give my all and help the team succeed, and it's wonderful when your efforts are acknowledged by the FIH Star Awards. Also, I'd like to congratulate each of the other Indian Men's and Women's Teams nominees "Harmanpreet remarked.
The defender continued by saying that the FIH Star Award nominations demonstrate the fast expansion of Indian teams. "Last time, we won every award, and this time, we've been nominated for the majority of them, demonstrating our stellar performance over the previous two years. The men's and women's Indian teams have developed quite quickly, and I think we can continue to improve in the future.
The state of Indian hockey right now is quite exciting." When discussing the short-term objectives for the men's squad, Harmanpreet said, "Our games in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2022–23 are something we are anxiously anticipating. After the CWG concluded, we worked on a few other things. Hopefully, we can continue to develop as a team and become a better side. We came in third place in the most recent FIH Hockey Pro League season. We'll try to improve our performance in the upcoming competition."
