Chennai:  On Thursday, the Tamil Nadu assembly passed a resolution requesting the Centre to start working on the Sethusamudram Project without further delay.

In a resolution introduced by the state Chief Minister MK Stalin, it was requested that the Union Government not postpone the project because it is crucial to Tamil Nadu's economic development and that of the entire nation.

"The BJP was against the Sethusamudram Project for political reasons. Jayalalitha, the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, first supported the project but abruptly changed her mind and brought a lawsuit against it "said Stalin. The chief minister said that the DMK government demands that the Center immediately resume the abandoned project.

"The Sethusamudram Project is crucial to accelerating Tamil Nadu's and India's economic growth. Commander Taylor first had the idea for this fantastic enterprise in 1860, and it cost him Rs. 50 lakh "While moving the resolution, CM Stalin said. He added that the feasibility assessment for the project had been authorised by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

The chief minister outlined the advantages of the project, claiming that it will strengthen the state's economy and support the southern regions in particular while ensuring job possibilities for the local young.
