CHENNAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) former interim general secretary and close aide of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, V.K. Sasikala has requested the Tamil Nadu government to procure Sugarcane of all sizes for the Pongal gift hampers.

Sasikalasaid that the state government had put the size of sugarcane to be bought in for Pongal gift hampers at 6 ft. which was not feasible.

Sasikala said,  the size of the sugarcane depends on the soil in which it was produced and is not under the control of the farmers. The government should not buy sugarcane of any particular size from farmers, according to the former general secretary of the AIADMK. It should be remembered that the state government paid farmers Rs 33 per piece for their sugarcane.

The former AIADMK temporary general secretary said in a statement on Tuesday that the DMK administration was putting a stop to all of the pro-people initiatives started by the AIADMK administrations under MGR and J. Jayalalithaa.
Sasikala also said that the DMK men were engaging in unacceptable rowdiness. The former adviser to Jayalalithaa claimed that under her administration, the government had reacted harshly to any misconduct on the part of AIADMK members. She said that "no operations, including construction, are allowed if they don't pay 'hafta' or protection money to the DMK men."

She urged the state government to be more populist and argued that it needed to take harsh measures against anyone engaging in violent behaviour.
