Lucknow: Last week, on July 8, the Uttar Pradesh Police uncovered a two-page suicide note during their investigation into the death of Maulana Mohammed Akram in Moradabad. The note, written in Urdu, revealed that the Maulana committed suicide due to personal problems, including his unfulfilled desire to marry a second time. The note has been sent to the forensic department and handwriting experts as part of the ongoing investigation.

Initial reports of Maulana Akram's death, which occurred due to a gunshot, were propagated by some Islamists as a religiously motivated murder. Social media was rife with claims that Maulana Akram was killed over a political dispute following the Lok Sabha elections. Salman Nizami, spokesperson for the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, alleged in an X post that the killing was part of a broader pattern of violence against Muslims, suggesting that the murder was politically and religiously targeted. He also criticized the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi for their silence, insinuating that they exploit Muslims for electoral gains and then abandon them.

However, it has now emerged that Maulana Akram's death was a suicide and not the result of a political conspiracy. According to a report by Live Hindustan, the Maulana, who resided in the Chaupura area of Rampur district and served at a mosque in Bhaisiya village, had been dealing with personal issues. His body was discovered on June 11 near an unnamed property close to his house. The police were alerted and immediately began an investigation. Locals informed the police that the Maulana's wife and three of his children had left him two days before his death, while three of his children remained with him.

On the night of his death, it was reported that someone had called the Maulana outside his home, after which he was found dead. The family later submitted a suicide note found at their home, which detailed his personal struggles, including his desire to marry a second time. The family members have confirmed the handwriting on the note as that of the deceased Maulana. The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing, but the discovery of the suicide note provides significant insight into the true nature of his death.
