University Exam Case: Supreme Court Seeks Response from UGC on Petition

New Delhi: A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on August 10 on a petition challenging the final year examination in universities across the country. The UGC questioned the Delhi and Maharashtra government's cancellation of the exam in court. On behalf of UGC, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that the UGC can take a decision on whether to conduct the exam or not, because only UGC can award degrees.

Tushar Mehta told the court that a hearing should be held in this case. After which the court has fixed the date of August 14 for hearing. The court has asked the UGC to file an answer on this issue. Here, the Delhi government has informed the court that it has decided to cancel the examination of DU in its colleges. The Maharashtra government has told the court that on July 13, the State Disaster Management Authority has passed a resolution not to conduct the examination. Let us tell you that this hearing is being done in the matter of ordering the UGC to conduct the graduation third year exam by 30 September.

The petitioning students opposing the examination said that Delhi and Maharashtra had canceled the exam. On this, the Solicitor General said that time be given to file an answer on the decision of Delhi and Maharashtra. On the next hearing on Friday, the court has asked the UGC to file a response.
