SC Cancels Bengaluru National Law School's Separate Entrance Exam

New Delhi: The country's largest court has dismissed the national law school of India University 's (NLSIU) decision to conduct a separate entrance exam. It has also ordered admission under the Common Law Entrance Test (CLAT) and the process is completed by mid-October. The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has ought to find BALLB and LL. M has decided to conduct a separate entrance exam for admission in courses.

The name of the entrance exam was the National Law Aptitude Test (NLAT), which was due on September 12, 2020.  The verdict was challenged in the apex court. However, the apex court had allowed the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bengaluru to conduct NLAT 2020 on September 12, but said the institute will not declare the result of the exam unless the court decides the validity of the exam.

Former NLSIU Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) R Venkatrao and family members of the students had petitioned the Apex court challenging the decision to conduct the NLAT exam. The petition said that the NLSIU's decision has created unexpected uncertainties and also put unnecessary burden on students. Today, the apex court quashed the NLSIU's decision to conduct a separate entrance exam.
