Supreme Court asks to Nitish gov't to respond over deaths due to Encephalitis

New Delhi: The apex court issues notices to the Centre, Bihar and UP government on a PIL seeking to save children from Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES). It ordered immediately to set up a medical board of specialists and have summoned the answer. The three governments will have to file a report in the top court in 7 days. The next hearing of the case will be held after 10 days.

The order came after hearing a petition filed by advocate Manohar Pratap, a vacation bench of Justices Sanjeev Khanna and BR Gavai. In fact, the petition has sought a direction to the Centre to set up a medical board of experts and immediately send it to Muzaffarpur and other affected areas of Bihar, accusing the Bihar's Nitish Kumar government of negligence over the  Encephalitis also known as "Chamki " fever.

In addition, the Centre and the Bihar government have also been directed to send 500 ICUs to 100 mobile ICUs equipped with experts to provide treatment to the affected people in remote areas. The petition also sought an order directing the Nitish government to issue an order in view of special circumstances, asking private hospitals in the affected areas to get treatment free of cost.
