New Delhi: The Supreme Court is expected to come up with a decision on a petition challenging the University Grants Commission (UGC) directives for the university's final year or semester examinations. The hearing of the case was completed in the Supreme Court on 18 August 2020 and the decision was reserved by the court.

Hearing of this case Supreme Court Judges Ashok Bhushan, Judge R.K. Subhash Reddy and Judge M.R. Shah's bench has been done. During the last hearing on Tuesday, the bench gave all parties three days' time to submit their final arguments in writing. After the end of the period given to all the parties by the apex court bench, it is expected that the verdict in the final year or semester examination will be heard today, August 24.

The last hearing held on 18 August on various petitions challenging the directives issued on 6 July by the UGC to complete the final year or semester exams of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the university and other higher education institutions by 30 September During the arguments of various states - Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi and Odisha were also heard. Because the governments of these states had taken the decision to cancel the examinations themselves. During the hearing by the UGC, the decision of these states was declared against the statutory privileges of the Commission.
