New Delhi: The Supreme Court has made a big comment about the development. The apex court said that it is not against sustainable development. But it should not be at the cost of environment. The Supreme Court was making this remark in relation to the Goa government. The court said that the administration cannot ruin Goa simply because it has more forest area than the national average. The next hearing on this matter will be held on 23 September. A division bench of justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on Friday that he was against the leaders who used the court orders for their discretionary motive.
The bench said that we are with you for sustainable development but this does not mean that you will destroy the forest. We will not allow you to cut a single tree. Mehta told the court that Goa has about 62 percent forest. This is about 62 percent more than the national average. On this, the bench said whether it gave you the right to destroy it.
You are lucky to have such a large forest area. Our request is not to destroy it. The bench was hearing a petition urging Goa to change the order of the Supreme Court of 4 February 2015. On the same verdict of the apex court, Mehta said that on the basis of this order, the administration in Goa will not be able to carry out development work in any area. On this, the court said that it is not against development work.
