New Delhi: The Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on the PIL filed regarding the PM Cares Fund. The petition filed has also demanded an order to the central government to deposit the entire amount of donations received in the PM Cares Fund into the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). On behalf of the Central Government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that NDRF funds are also eligible for CSR benefits.

Congress leader and lawyer by profession Kapil Sibal had argued that corporates will not contribute to NDRF, because NDRF cannot contribute through CSR and they will not get any benefit. Senior Advocate Dave said that every fund contributing towards disaster relief should be transferred to NDRF. How the PM Cares Fund is individual, while its Trustees are ministers, and how the PM Cares Fund is being given the benefit of CSR?

Earlier, during the hearing on this PIL, the central government had defended the decision to create PM Cares Fund and said that Disaster Management Fund is a provision related to the budget under the Disaster Management Act and there is no personal contribution to it. The existence of an NDRF fund does not restrict the PM Care Fund.
