High court may change rules on prisoners' bail and parole: Supreme Court

New Delhi: In view of the global epidemic coronavirus, a petition seeking relaxation of the bell and parole rules was heard in the apex court on Monday. The Supreme Court said that the High Court can change the rules related to it. Public interest litigation was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of an NGO and social activist Medha Patekar on this issue.

The petition said that more than 2300 prisoners in Maharashtra have been tested corona positive and 10 have died due to the virus. In this plea, the petition sought to simplify the rules so that more prisoners could be given bail during the Corona epidemic and the number of inmates in the jail could be reduced. A hearing was held in the apex court on Monday on this issue. The court said in its order that the High Court can change the rules related to bail or parole.

Let us tell you that the lockdown was implemented from March 25 in view of the threat of coronavirus in March. After which the whole country was closed. In view of this, for the purpose of crowding the prisoners in the jail, the Supreme Court had directed all the state governments to form a committee and decide which prisoners can be excluded.
