New Delhi: A bench of three judges of the Supreme Court will hear the petition filed by the Center reviewing the SC / ST law. The apex court had sent a petition reviewing the order of 20 March 2018 making the provisions of arrest under the SC / ST law to the three-judge bench. There was a lot of controversy after this decision. After heavy criticism, the Central Government had filed a petition in the apex court for a re-review of the order.

A bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Justice U Lalit said that the matter should be placed before a three-member bench for hearing next week. The Supreme Court reserved the verdict on May 1 on the plea of the Center for review. He had said that the laws in the country should be neutral and uniform in terms of caste. There was a lot of uproar about this decision and various SC / ST organizations had demonstrated across the country. The Center has said in the petition that the entire verdict delivered in March 2018 is problematic and the court should review it.

Earlier, the apex court had on January 30 refused to stay the amendments made in the SC / ST law. By amendments the provision of not granting anticipatory bail to the accused has been restored in case of a complaint under this law.
