Ayodhya case: Supreme Court may consider 18 reconsideration petitions today

Lucknow: Shortly before the Supreme Court will consider reconsideration petitions filed against the decision on 9 November 2019 in the Ayodhya land dispute case. A five-member Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde will hold an in-chamber hearing on 18 reconsideration petitions at around 1:40 pm. Apart from the Chief Justice, the bench consists of Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice SA Nazir and Justice Sanjeev Khanna. Except for Justice Khanna, the rest of the members were part of the Constitution Bench which gave the verdict in the case. Justice Khanna has been included in place of CJI Ranjan Gogoi, who retired on 17 November 2019.

According to the sources, out of the 18 reconsideration petitions, 9 parties are those who were earlier in support. The remaining 9 have filed by third parties. The bench will consider whether the petitions should be heard in the open court. A five-member constitution bench headed by former CJI Gogoi unanimously ruled to give 2.77 acres of disputed land to Ramlala. Also, the Center was instructed to give 5 acres of land for construction of the mosque to the Sunni Waqf Board.

Nirmohi Akhara also filed a review petition: Nirmohi Akhara has also filed a review petition in Ayodhya case on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Panch Rajaram Chandra Acharya has filed a petition on behalf of Akhara. It said that the court had directed the central government to form a trust for the construction of the Ram temple and asked to represent the arena. Even after a month of this decision, his role in the trust has not been decided.
