Swati Maliwal's hunger strike continues at Rajghat, said- 'Not afraid of police..'

New Delhi: Recently, Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the Delhi Women's Commission, who is on a fast-unto-death at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, is on fast at Rajghat. Policemen, who arrived in large numbers at Jantar Mantar last Tuesday evening, said that the protest would not be allowed after 5 pm. After a long conversation, the police force was withdrawn at around 8:30 pm. Swati agreed to continue her fast from Jantar Mantar to Rajghat.

Sources said that Swati had written on social media before going on a hunger strike on Tuesday morning that the police is not giving approval for the demonstration at Jantar-Mantar. The police is saying that they have orders from top that they should not let me sit on hunger strike. Swati also wrote that she is not a criminal, it is unfortunate that the Delhi Police is not cooperating but no matter what happens, the police and the center no matter how much they try but she will continue her fast.

Letter written to PM, demanding strict enforcement of the law: According to sources, Swati on Tuesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded to hang the accused of misconduct/ rape within six months of proving blame. She has written in the letter that the police force should be increased and their accountability should be fixed. Making laws is not enough.

Women demanded protection: Anger was clearly visible on the faces of the women involved in the demonstration. She said that women should get their respect across the country. The darkness of night should not lead them to death. They have now started fearing in their own house. Their lives are in crisis and they should get security. With placards bearing slogans on their hands, these women were demanding justice from the government for the victims of rape. Every woman was just saying that Nirbhaya went to Delhi and a doctor in Hyderabad. Everyday cases of rape are coming up and the government is sitting silently.
