Sweden bans 5G network on Huawei and ZTS

The Swedish telecoms regulator said on Friday, Huawei the Chinese telecoms equipment maker appeals the governmnet against the decision to ban the company from 5G networks. "What happens now is we will send the appeal to the administrative court of Stockholm. After that, they will handle this case," a PTS spokesman said.

Huawei and ZTE were banned last month in Sweden from its 5G network. European nations are restricting the role of Chinese suppliers on security grounds. Sweden by the ban has joined the group. The Swedish armed forces and security service has made an  examination recently "to ensure that the use of radio equipment in these bands does not cause harm to Sweden's security,"and the ban is a follow up wit this new legislationenforced in January 2020, said the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority.

Kenneth Fredriksen, Huawei's Executive Vice President, Central East Europe, and Nordic Region said, "We think the decision that has been taken is not good for customers nor for Sweden in general". He added the company is taking the ban to the Swedish court to verify whether the ban is according to the law. Until January 1, 2025 PTS instructs the companies participating in the 5G spectrum auctions to remove Huawei and ZTE equipment from their existing infrastructure and core functions. The auctions are expected to start next week and is in benefit to the Huawei's rivals, Nokia and Ericsson.
