MELBOURNE: Tayla Vlaeminck will be sitting out her second consecutive WBBL season due to left shoulder surgery, extending her unfortunate streak of injuries. Known as one of women's cricket's swiftest bowlers, Australia's Tayla Vlaeminck underwent surgery to stabilize her left shoulder, the non-bowling arm, after enduring a dislocation while bowling for Australia A during a 50-over match in England this July, as confirmed by Cricket Australia.

The dislocation, stemming from an innocuous action, raised concerns about potential reoccurrence. Consequently, CA's medical team deemed surgical intervention the most suitable course of action for the 24-year-old player. This incident marked Tayla's first appearance in competitive cricket following an 18-month hiatus due to rehabilitating a stress fracture in the navicular bone of her right foot, which required extensive recovery efforts.

This initial injury had sidelined her during Australia's triumphant 2020 T20 World Cup campaign on home soil. Unfortunately, a recurrence of the injury throughout the 2021-22 Women's Ashes at home prevented her participation in Australia's successful endeavors during the 2022 ODI World Cup, Birmingham Commonwealth Games, this year's T20 World Cup in South Africa, as well as the previous edition of WBBL.

Reports confirm that Tayla has already embarked on the rehabilitation process. However, she won't be in contention for Australia's upcoming home white-ball series against West Indies, and the exact timeline for her return to the game remains uncertain.

Since making her international debut in 2018, Tayla has represented Australia in 15 T20Is and eight ODIs. Beyond her absence from Melbourne Renegades' campaign in the forthcoming WBBL season, she will also be missing from the commencement of the domestic 50-over season.

Shawn Flegler, CA's Head of Performance, expressed disappointment for Tayla's predicament, acknowledging her remarkable resilience in the face of recurring setbacks. Flegler emphasized their collaborative efforts with Cricket Victoria's high-performance personnel to provide comprehensive support to Tayla throughout her rehabilitation journey.
