Silchar: Tension prevailed after the body of a 16-year-old girl who was missing for the last four days was found. The girl was found dead in the river on Wednesday morning on Ashram Road in Silchar. This news spread like wild fire. There is an atmosphere of panic among the people after the body of the girl was found. The police have started investigation after registering an FIR.

After the body reached her home on Wednesday afternoon, a group of locals created a ruckus and attacked the house of the deceased's alleged lover. The angry mob ransacked the house and then set the boy's motorcycle on fire. After this, they started vandalizing the shops of the area and pelted stones at the police. Police personnel resorted to lathi charge to disperse the uncontrollable crowd. Some bullets were also fired in the air. Three shops were damaged in this incident.

People said that the girl was gang-raped by her boyfriend and his friends and then murdered. The family members of the girl have also made the same claim and demanded justice. The police have detained the girl's boyfriend and two others in connection with the incident. Security has been beefed up on Ashram Road and its adjoining areas to prevent the incident from progressing further.
