The Auspicious Month of Sawan: A Time to Worship Lord Shiva

The month of Sawan, dedicated to Lord Shiva, holds great significance in the Hindu calendar. This period, starting from July 22, 2024, is considered sacred for worshipping the deity, with Mondays holding special importance. Devotees throng temples and Shiva temples to offer prayers, perform abhishekam (ritual bathing), and observe fasts.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva is pleased when offered water, milk, gangajal, honey, curd, and ghee. The significance of offering water to Shiva can be traced back to the Samudra Manthan episode, where the deity consumed the deadly halahal poison, turning his throat blue. To alleviate the heat, all gods offered him water, making it an essential element in Shiva worship.

To perform the puja, devotees must first bathe and wear clean clothes. They can then visit a temple or perform the puja at home. Offering bel leaves, dhatura, and bhasma to Shiva Linga, followed by lighting incense and lamps, completes the ritual. Observing a fast on this day is also considered auspicious, with the option to consume fruits and milk products.

Worshipping Shiva during Sawan is believed to alleviate all obstacles in life and bring happiness and prosperity to the family. Don't miss this opportunity to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva during this sacred month.
