In the midst of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, more than a dozen telecom companies, including Deutsche Telecom, AT&T and Vodafone, have announced to provide free international calls to Ukraine. These companies have also abolished roaming charges. European telecommunications lobbying group ETNO has said that an internal survey has shown that at least 13 of its members have come forward to help the people of Ukraine after Russia's attack on Ukraine. Similar expectations are also being made from other companies and institutions in the coming days.

The telecom companies that have abolished roaming charges in addition to free international calls in Ukraine include Deutsche Telecom, Orange, Telefonica, Telia Company, A1 Telecom Austria Group, Telenor, Proximus, KPN, Vodafone, Viacom, TIM Telecom Italia, Altis Portugal and Swisscom.

Many of these companies are providing free SIM cards to refugees in neighbouring countries. Along with this, free Wi-Fi and SMS donations are also going on in the refugee camps. Last week, US telecom group AT&T said that its US consumers and business customers are getting unlimited long-distance calling in Ukraine until March 7. At the same time, Verizon has said that it is working to waive off charges for calls from Ukraine on landlines and consumer or commercial wireless phones by March 10. Verizon has also abolished voice and text roaming charges for its customers in Ukraine.
