NEW DELHI: Eight states are currently falling short in their efforts to meet the objectives set forth by Mission Amrit Sarovar, a comprehensive initiative aimed at the revitalization of water bodies. This comes in spite of the fact that the overarching national goal has been successfully attained, as conveyed by a statement from the Ministry of Rural Development.

The statement underscores the endeavors undertaken by various states to achieve the specific target of 75 Amrit Sarovar per district as part of the district-level objective. However, there are exceptions in the cases of West Bengal, Punjab, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Bihar, and Rajasthan. Within these states, certain districts have yet to reach the established benchmark of 75 Amrit Sarovars per district.

Additionally, it is worth noting that Mission Amrit Sarovar involves the active participation of eight central ministries, including Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Railways, and Road Transport and Highways. Various departments are also engaged in this mission, encompassing Land Resources, Drinking Water and Sanitation, as well as Water Resources.
