This American businessman donated Rs 7.76 crore to BHU, know the reason?

Varanasi: American entrepreneur Desh Deshpande and his wife Jayshree Deshpande have donated one million dollars (Rs 7,76,30,000) to IIT (Banaras Hindu University) in honor of their father. The main library of IIT will be named after Srinivas Deshpande, a 1948 batch student. The naming ceremony will be held on June 24.

Desh Deshpande has informed that his father Srinivas Deshpande was born on March 2, 1925. He completed first class BSc in Industrial Chemistry from IIT-BHU in 1948, then retired from the Government of Karnataka in 1980 as Joint Labor Commissioner, working in the public sector for the next 31 years. Desh Deshpande has said that, 'A chance meeting with Dr. Godbole, principal of BHU, inspired my father to study in this university and this university changed his and our family's life. We are hopeful that this humble gift will have a similar impact on the lives of hundreds of library people in future.

On this occasion, Arun Tripathi, Head of IIT (BHU) Foundation said, 'We are grateful to Deshpande and his wife Jayshree for this important gift. Deshpande is a famous social worker. We are fortunate to have Srinivas Deshpande as our alumnus and are inspired by his commitment to helping others.
