France's star footballer has decided to leave the legendary Spanish club Real Madrid. Real Madrid has also confirmed this on Sunday. According to the information received so far, 35-year-old striker Benzema is going to join a football club in Saudi Arabia. "Our captain Karim Benzema has decided to end his illustrious career as a player," Real Madrid said in a statement.

Madrid would like to express its gratitude and love to Benzema. He was one of the greatest footballers for our club. Benzema's decision to leave came after Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Saturday that Benzema was not leaving Real Madrid and that he had another year of contract left at the club.

Not only this, Benzema himself said after the report of going to Saudi Arabia that "everything you read on the Internet is not reality." The French forward joined Real Madrid in 2009 from Ligue-1 side Lyon. Benzema had established himself at the club as a key player along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. This trio was named BBC (Benzema, Bell and Cristiano). He was the team's lead striker after Ronaldo left the club in 2018.

Benzema has also won 24 trophies with Madrid, including 5 Champions League, 4 La Liga titles and three Copa del Rey. He was awarded the Ballon d'Or last year for his outstanding football. He is Real Madrid's all-time second top scorer. Benzema has also scored 353 goals for Madrid. He is second after Ronaldo's 450 goals. Benzema's final appearance for Real Madrid could also be in the match against Athletic Bilbao.
