New Delhi: Rakesh Tikait, a leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in a demonstration outside the Telangana Bhavan on Monday against the alleged "biassed policy" in foodgrain procurement.

The protest is being led by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who is backed by TRS leaders. In a statement to the media, TRS MLC K Kavitha, the Telangana Chief Minister's daughter, urged the Centre to acquire the crop and requested a national procurement policy.

"Our farmers aren't getting a fair deal. We are requesting that the Central Government purchase paddy from our state. We call for a unified procurement policy. Rakesh Tikait had previously spoken with CM K Chandrashekar Rao about agricultural issues, and he has come to our rescue "Kavitha remarked.

TRS MPs, MLCs, MLAs, and other elected officials are participating in the "dharna," claiming that the "Centre's policy is discriminatory towards Telangana farmers."

TRS workers in Telangana recently stopped four national highways to stress their demand for a "uniform" procurement strategy across the country. In order to bring the matter to a national level, the party decided to hold a protest in Delhi.

Earlier on Sunday, Kavitha told the media that the country's food security would be jeopardised if the Centre did not implement a "universal procurement" strategy.
