A reference letter is the second name of the recommendation letter. When you applying for any university, this letter becomes the most important part of the application process. These letters help universities to scale the applicant’s strengths, weakness and potential for further study, other than academic mark sheets and transcripts submitted. In other words, it opens up a window for the university into applicants traits and personality.

Worldwide, universities required recommendation letter as an integral part of the application of applicants.A minimum of three recommendations is required for most colleges. However, some universities may need only two.

1. For Bachelor’s program, two letters from teachers and one letter principal School Counsellor is required.

2. Applicants without work experience, applying for MS/PhD degree require three recommendations from their respective professors or faculty members.

3. Applicants applying to MS/PhD with 1 or more years of professional experience are strongly recommended to provide at least one recommendation letter from the employer.

4. For MBA program, applicant required submitting professional recommendations of current or past employers to the university.

The most common mistake that applicants do is; reaching to those professors or senior professional for the recommendation, who may not have taught or worked with them but have impressive degrees or designations. They think this trick will make university official impressed with them and their qualification. However, this is just a myth!!! University considers those applicants first, they think to provide the recommendations from their actual mentors. ALWAYS opt for teachers who have taught you and who would be happy to provide glowing recommendations. Working professionals should ALWAYS opt for recommendations from people who have closely monitored your work and performance in the company.
