Ujjain:  In Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district, a traditional "Donkey Fair" has been organised on the banks  Shipra River. Every year, during the Hindu calendar's Kartik month, from Ekadashi to Purnima (the full moon night), this fair is organised.

Mules and donkeys from all parts of the country have been brought here, and dealers from all over the country have gathered to buy the animals at the fair. Before entering the fair, the animals are coloured, and their names are written on their bodies.

Along with selling donkeys and mules, this year's market also attracts a sizable contingent of horse dealers. Horses of several species have been brought to the fair. According to Bablu Prajapati, a local dealer, "It is a part of my regular business. Here in Ujjain, we purchase donkeys and mules from various sources and sell them. A deal is being worked on for a handful of the remaining donkeys after a few were sold ".

Dadabhau Gote Rao Shinde, a buyer from Maharashtra, spoke said, "I came here to buy donkeys. It has been years since this fair was organised. When buying the donkey, our father and grandfather used to visit here ".

Notably, it is said that only two locations in the nation host a fair this size for donkeys. In Pushkar, Rajasthan, one is held, and in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, the other.
